The Good: PGR4 sports some of the best visuals and weather effects I
have seen to date in a racer. The music and audio effects are all top notch,
and game play is smooth and fun offering up a variety of race types, cars
and newly added motorcycles. Driving is easy to get a grip on as the game
is not a simulation at all and lets racers run around the track in arcade
play fashion.
The Bad: Customization of vehicles while present in the paint scheme is
fairly tacted on in its feel. Menu systems for pre-race are a bit cumbersome.
Overall the driving mechanic while easy enough just never feels great. On
top of which the over the top arcade handling and lack of damage allow for
players to play bumper cars at will online or in single player and just never
lets you feel the need to improve your driving skill.
Overall: This game should have been fantastic, and instead crosses the line
with a whimper compared to Forza2, GT5 Prologue and the newly released
GRID. You can find it for cheap, so if you are a race fan it may be worth
a pick up...for all others I would say its a rent at best.
